Sight Words: The sight words we learn in Reading comprise
the most important words for reading and writing in the English language. It is absolutely impossible to read or write
anything without knowing at least some of these words. Students will need to be able to read the
“sight words” without a moment’s hesitation because most of these words make up
65% of all written material. Over half
of every newspaper article, textbook, children’s story, and novel is composed
of these words. This information is
based research from Dr. Edward Fry Ph.D.
Each week, we will have assigned
sight words. Your child will be expected
to master the sight words to help with reading fluency and comprehension.
Sharing
for this week is “categories”. Please
bring in at least four objects that go together to form a category. (fruits, vehicles, animals, etc.)
We
have a four point grading scale: 4 3
2 1
93%
or above = 4 80%-92% = 3 60%-79% = 2 59% or below = 1
If
you have any questions or concerns, please call, send a note, or stop by.
