This week’s theme for sharing is eating.  Please bring something that gives us a clue of your favorite place to eat.  Some suggestions would be a napkin, a coloring placemat, empty container, a menu, etc. 

We will be doing MAP (Measure of Academic Testing) on Thursday and Friday this week.  This is a district-wide assessment that is done three times a year, Fall, Winter, and Spring.

We do not have CCC during the testing time at Jacobson.

Lesson 5  -  Counting on and making ten when one addend is 9.  Students will make a number bond to show their thinking.  9 + 3 = ___   3 becomes 1 and 2 in the number bond.  They write the new expression 10 + 2 = ___

Sharing for this week is addition.  Please come up with an addition story problem.  Bring the objects you’ll need to tell your addition story.  For example:  There were five horses eating grass.  Two more horses came along and started to eat grass.  How many horses are there now?  Bring horses or draw a picture of the problem.  The class will try to answer the question, so put the answer somewhere so the students won’t see it. 

We will be starting spelling words with Theme Three.  The list of words is stapled along with the sight words to the sharing note.  Each week there will be six words and two challenge words.  The students will be expected to master the six spelling words.  Challenge words will be given with the test each Friday, but will not be graded.  I will be tracking the results of those challenge words and will occasionally acknowledge 2 out of 2 results.    

The book order is due on Wednesday, November 5^th.  Books make excellent Christmas presents and are reasonably priced. 

Please continue to bring in Box Tops and Campbell’s UPC labels. 

Please accept my apology for including the “water cycle” song a week early.  The student learned the song and actions on Monday, October 20^th.  We made a “water cycle” bracelet on Tuesday, October 21st.  Now they can sing and do the actions for the song.

The Fall Party and Parade start at 2:00 on Friday, October 31^st.

Sharing for this week is fall.  Please bring something that makes you think of fall.  (Please bring something other than leaves.)

We will be starting our MAP testing.  MAP stands for “Measure of Academic Performance”.  All students Kindergarten through 6^th grade in Jacobson will be testing for the next couple of weeks.  We do this assessment three times a year.  This will be our Fall assessment.

Please dress your child with the proper attire for recess.  Heavier coats, hats, and/or gloves/mittens will help keep your child more comfortable at recess. 

Thank you for supporting the “baggie books”.  It is nice to see so many books being read and returned each morning.  Mrs. Burt is listening to students.  She comes every Tuesday and Thursday. 

Please read and do the homework at the end of this newsletter.  I record all homework completed and returned.  Thank you.

We will be graphing the morning temperatures for the next two weeks.  We will use this information to ask questions about the temperature in an assessment.

Please make sure your child is dressed properly for outside recess.  The days are starting to get cooler, and a pair of gloves/mittens and/or ear covering may be appreciated. 

Don’t forget to collect the Box Tops and UPC labels from Campbell’s products.  The school is also taking non-working cell phones, Tyson labels, and empty computer ink cartridges.
